For Our Next Number...

How's this for numerological totosity?
I graduated in 1981. Looking ahead, when the Williams Octet celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2040, I will be - yep - 81. The number of members in the rebooted Octet was 8 plus 1. Which equals 9. Which when squared is (hello) 81.

Another significant number in Lemmingsology is 40. There's our Sesame Street song "Wuntafordy (1-40)".  The original Octet was founded in '40. Kev did a lot of Lemmings arrangements from 40 River Road on Roosevelt Island. And get this: in Math terms, 40 is an "octagonal number".  Octagonal... Octet. And it's categorized as "semi-perfect" (describe anyone you know?)

Speaking of Wuntafordy, in my box of Lemmings droppings I discovered long-forgotten behind-the-scenes footage of us learning the song at Chez Tey in NY and then recording it at Nola Studio. Jon Stone is with us (Jon Stoooooone!) as is special guest tenor Tony Dowdy (aka Tonaii). I don't even remember shooting this stuff, but here it is. Check it out.
Meanwhile, have you seen what some industrious young animator has been doing with our song on YouTube? He took the music from Wuntafordy and is putting his own numbers to it. Gentlemen, we have our first stalker!

Poll results are in! And Istanbul noses out Roaches for the title of favorite choreography. This week, we revisit our favorite group discussion topic - what to wear. Vote above on the right.

And then shut.

  1. I should have put this in the blog. You can see the whole 1-40 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHNWaHZnisU, and we posted the original claymation version here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFANbvh4Rq0&feature=related
